KGALAGADI NATIONAL PARK / BIRDS

We were excited to reach our next destination and had a wonderful 10 days of excellent birding. Although the migratory feathered friends had already left, we saw many spectacular birds, big and small and loved them all. The raptors were most obliging and at times could be approached close enough to enjoy their behaviour.

The most memorable one was an altercation between a secretary bird and 2 jackals. This turned into a well-choreographed dance which gave us the impression that they knew each other and it was not the first time that they played this game of ‘catch me if you can’! One evening, jewel like Swallow-Tailed Bee-Eaters were feeding on insects and coming back to perch on a branch so close to the cruiser I felt I could almost touch them.

I chose a variety of some of our best and favourite sightings to remember those special light drenched days.
