Lost in the middle of nowhere, this was a treasure trove of bright coloured little birds.
The spacious accommodation, set under some wonderful acacias, with a bird bath in the courtyard that attracted them all day. Comfortably settled with my long lens I captured not only the feathered friends but families of Ground Squirrels, Yellow Mongooses and Grey Duiker. If the cheeky Vervet Monkeys entertained us, they also kept us on our toes as they were so cunning and quick at slipping in the moment a door or window was left open. Starting the fire was definitely the signal to all of them that food was soon coming out and all this little world joined us with great expectation.
We wondered how the staff cleaned the remains in our fireplace so thoroughly. We found the answer the following evening with a Gemsbok that was eating the charcoal and licking the ash to the last bit!
It was a peaceful place, perfect for long walks and of course the famous “Roaring Sand” were not to be missed.

Having spotted the old wagon on display near the office, I thought it would be the ideal foreground for some night photography, exposing for 45min, I was excited to finally get a successful Star Trail..
