OKAVANGO DELTA IN BOTSWANA

The best thing we ever decided to do on the spur of the moment was to fly to Pom Pom Camp in the Okavango Delta.

This is where we spent a few days waking up to the call of Fish Eagles with very noisy Hippos frolicking in the pond in front of our Lodge and Lions roaring in the distance.

We saw lots of amazing birds, many being a first for Guy who was in heaven as he was involved with the nomination by UNESCO of the Okavango Delta as a World Heritage site and could finally fly over & see the area after all his hard work.

The game drives were the best ever with knowledgeable  trackers and we saw all kinds of antelopes, Lions, Leopards, Elephants etc. But my favorite was drifting around this expanse of water at sunrise, in the shallows far from the hippos. In the silent mokoro all we could hear was the sound of the reads parting in front of our pirogue, the calls of the birds and looking for the enchanting, tiny  Reed Frogs amongst many other things. Not one mosquito!

It was beautiful to fly over the Swamps and see herds of animals gathering at water points below us, sadly the dream was over too quickly.
Our most sincere thanks go to the great team of Rhino Africa Safaris http://www.rhinoafrica.com for this marvelous trip.We cherish memories of this experience which reminded us how beautiful the wildlife, the landscapes, the sunsets and the people of Africa are.
